  16. Yeah, for you!!! In 1944 when I was 7 years old and in second grade, I decided I wanted to be a teacher!!! Original, huh? Scholarships of $250 allowed my dream to come true, when my tutition was $137 a quarter for a full load of classes. Taught first and second graders for 30 years, retired when I was still at the top of my game at the age of 56. I did not regret my dream!!!

  21. Hello Nancy - congrats on your hits. When I was little, I wanted to be a teacher and flight attendant. Then I realized I was scared and got sick on planes, but I do work with kids (just not a teacher).

  22. Great looking blog candy Nancy...good for you!

Anyway, I have a funny story about what I wanted to be (told to me by my mother since I don't remember it). When I went to Kindergarden, it was at a Catholic school taught by nuns. They asked all of us what we wanted to be when we grew as part of show and tell...my answer was Farrah Fawcett (does that date me or what?!?). Needless to say the nuns were eager to get me on another path!

For the real answer, I thought (like many of my friends who grew up in the eighties) that by the time I was 28 (i.e., the year 2000), I would be a VP of some big Fortune 500 company, have two kids, a doting husband and a gorgeous white New England-style home. (I watched the Secret of My Success with Michael J. Fox too many times!) Needless to say, that did not happen (like it even could) but I think with a lot of hard work my life has turned out better than the idealized world I imagined!

    neat question to answer.

    Yes my deam came true.
I played "teacher" all the time when I was little. Made my sister sit in the playroom for hours and taught some mean manners to my stuffed animals.

Um what did I dream about being when I grew up, I honestly cannot remember, I knew I wanted to be a mum (which I am to three adorable girls) and I wanted to Join the Navy, which I very nearly did at 16/17 but then I met my boyfriend who turned into my husband and that is the end of that story!!! 36. Wow Nancy! Your blog has come a long long way. I really like all the links. It's very inspirational and I think I'll bookmark your blog so I can go back to it again and again *smile*.
You want to know what I wanted to be when I grew up? Well two things. I wanted to be a teacher. The closest to that I got was volunteeering in an elementary school as a tutor. I was also lunchroom supervisor. Not quite meeting that mark, eh? LOL
I also wanted to be nurse. All mothers need to be nurses, right? lol Well that's about as close to being a nurse that I got. I did spend a lot of time in the hospital though. I learned a lot there. Often I would have to lead a nurse step by step when she had to change my dressings.
Oh well. At least I am happy with my life as it is. It's great to be alive.
Keep up the good work Nancy. I really like it!

  37. If you ask my father what I wanted to be when I grew up, he'll tell you a Crossing Guard. He still teases me about that one but if you check the book my mother kept for me, it will say Brick Layer. I think I may have read the "3 Little Pigs" one too many times. Neither of those "dreams" came true but I'm kind of glad they didn't!

  39. Congratulations on so many hits! Well....I wanted to be a nurse (following in my mother's footsteps), graduated high school, was ready to enter nurses' training....then met my husband. He wasn't too happy about me working outside the home, so I never got to realize my dream. However, I have come to see that it probably wouldn't have been the best choice for me, so I'm happy with that.

I don't remember all the things I wanted to be when I grew up, but most of them were pretty unrealistic (pioneer, hockey player, etc.). The most realistic one was librarian.

I'm still in university and I don't consider myself fully grown up yet, so I suppose library science is still a possibility, but I don't have any firm plans to pursue it.

I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. Did I get there? Kind of. I'm a mom and we're our children's first teachers, right? Or, maybe I'm still growing up... :-)

  98. Pick me, pick me!

When I was little, I wanted to either be an actress or a singer. Now, if you've heard me sing, you'll know why I'm not a singer :-)

I sorta did some acting cuz I grew up to be a teacher and then I've moved into administration so I act like a grownup on a daily basis :-)

  136. Hi Nancy! I dreamed of becoming a pediatric oncologist as a kid. The reality of dealing with sick children hit me when I got out of high school and I knew I would not have the emotional stamina to be around little children in pain ... it broke my heart. Instead, I got married and have had 4 kids (thanks to God that they are healthy!).
