*Need Help With Robins*

For the last few days we've noticed about 5 robins hanging out on our patio furniture... and of course, they've been doing their business on my chairs (thank God the cushions aren't on them), all over the deck, on the table.

We've never had a lot of birds in the yard... the odd one on the fence or whatever. The last few days they are always here... on the patio furniture, on the swing across the yard (and pooping on the cushions there), on the fence, on the shed.

Nothing is different about our yard in the last few days.

Part of the problem is that we can't scare them off as we're not often seeing them out there... I've only seen them hanging out once... otherwise all I find are the gifts they're leaving behind...

My questions...

#1. What is drawing them to my yard?
#2 How do I get rid of them.

I'm sorry to anyone who loves birds, but birds truly give me the heebee-jeebees and I want them GONE!!

Thanks!

  1. has it been raining lately? you may have an abundance of worms and/or bugs that appeared and will disappear shortly. you can try flying a flag or shiny colored ribbon or buy a big fake owl; a dog, cat, or small children will also do the trick! good luck

  2. I too think the fake owl thing is suppose to work. Just put it on the railing of your deck.

  3. They are probably just moving through (the weather is getting cooler), and they'll leave soon no matter what you do (unless you purposely feed them). A wind chime might work, or old CDs hanging and flashing.

  4. I will send you my cat! He's no good for catching anything but the birds won't know that!

  5. 3 words...."Get A Cat".

I'm not a bird fan either really.

  6. Could be worse. For 3 years in a row we had a psycho robin that would attack a certain spot on one of our windows every Spring. He'd sit there for hours every day attacking the window with his beak every few minutes until there was a permanent mark on the window. He did it with such force you'd have thought he would have broken his beak or something, but he just kept right at it for 2 or 3 weeks at a time. We finally moved and the house was torn down or he'd probably still be at it. Animals are funny...

  7. Get a cat! Maybe something new bloomed in your garden? LOL! Deb

  8. Perhpas they are feeling threatened in their normal places-has the city sprayed for skeeters or is your neighbor pouring on bug deterrents in his yard. They will go where its safest. Send them to my yard-they can play with the squirrels. I have plenty of seeds for the

PS cats whould always be indoor pets.altho their faces in the window may scare birds away.

  9. If there's a large window nearby, during nesting season they think they see "other" birds and congregate near a window, even a car side mirror! Try something to cover it or try hanging something that will blow in the breeze and scare them away.

  10. Hi Nancy, I haven't been here in ages!
My great gran used to hang aluminum pie plates in her garden to keep the birds away. The noise in the wind and flashing freaks them out.
Come to think of it, flashers freak me out too.

  11. We had an issue our first spring here in our new constructed house. The birds were living in our grill (YUCK! i made DH get rid of it & get a new one!) My auntie said to hang an old silver-shiny Cd with fishing wire outside. She said to make a mobile of sorts with 2 or 3 so they blow different directions & the shiny scares the birds...
Once we got the new grill which had a cover, we didnt have a problem again(knock on wood!)
    Good Luck!
