*Last One of 2009*

Here it is, New Years Eve morning.... the house is quiet as I'm the only one up.  There's a light snow falling out my window.  And I think WOW... another year come and gone.  A brand new year to wake up to in the morning.

I am so blessed in so many ways and I sometimes forget that and focus on the negatives instead.  So, for today and for future reference, here are only a few of the things I have in my corner...
1.  I have a husband who loves me and who likes me (there is a difference).  Sure, we have difficulties from time to time (who wouldn't after 18 years of marriage??) but at the end of the day he's there to spoon me while I fall asleep.  After 18 years of marriage, we still like to hold hands.  He loves me.  What's better than that?
2.  I have two sons who are good kids.  They're by no means perfect, but they are loving, caring members of society.  I wish they would apply themselves more, would remember the important stuff more, but really?  What does it all matter.  They are happy and healthy and they treat others fairly.  And they respect their parents.  And they still give me hugs once in a while.  I love them.
3.  I have a Mom and two sisters who are always around to support me and to love me.  Yes, they live too far away to see regularly, but there's this wonderful invention called the Internet that allows us to be close.
4.  I miss my Dad a lot... wish he was still around... but he died knowing I love him.... and me knowing that he loved me.  That's very important!  And my kids were old enough that they remember him.  That's important too!
5.  I have some wonderful friends who hold me when I cry, and celebrate my achievements.  Friends can be more like family sometimes... and that's a good thing.
6.  I am blessed with a comfortable house, a car that runs, a safe neighbourhood with good schools, and all sorts of other things that so many others don't have.  I can't imagine being anywhere else right now.
7.  Despite a few bumps in the road, my life is good...

So, on to the reason you are here... to see the final card of 2009.  I created this card back in November to give to my very good friend Denise for her birthday.  She has a real thing for pink and she saw a card I received like this and kept bugging me to make one.  So I made it for her!

Items Used:
*Cardstock:  PaperTreyInk White; Stampin' Up! Basic Black, Pretty in Pink
*Images:  Hero Arts; Inkadinkadoo
*Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black; Copics
*Embellishments:  Prima flower; unknown brad; Kaiser Rhinestones
*Inspiration:  I found this pattern HERE

So, that's it's for 2009... 176 different designs.  There were more cards than that made since several were made in batches of 5 for Tracy's Christmas Card Challenge.  But 176 different designs.  I'm pleased with that.  I did 157 different designs in 2008 and 191 in 2007.  And only 83 in 2006!  WOW!!!  Very interesting!

I don't have a goal in mind for next year, but I'd sure like to see more than what I did in 2006 LOL!

I truly hope that the best day you experienced in 2009 will be your worst day of 2010!

If you are going out and about tonight, please stay safe....  find a designated driver, stay close to home, think responsibly.... and have a good time!

Happy New Year!

*Back To The Airport*

Hi all....  here it is, December 30th and we're back to running to the airport.  This time it's for the sad side of holiday visitors... the departure.  We have two of three holiday visitors leaving today.  Mom flies back to Regina, leaving at 4:45 and Rachael flies back to London Ontario on a flight that leaves at 6.

Sniff sniff sniff

It has been great having them here, getting to spend some time together.  Rachael is probably bored with  no friends around and us big people doing boring (to her) stuff...  maybe sometime she'll have to come for a few days to just hang with her n'Auntie.

Before they leave today we plan on treating Mom to one last feast at Swiss Chalet, which they no longer have in Regina.

I think the kids are kinda glad to be getting their bedrooms back....  I know it'll be nice to have Matthew's mess contained in his bedroom instead of the family room floor LOL!

This is another of the cards I created the other day while we ladies watched chick flicks in the craft cave.  Mom brought these neat dies that she bought from HERE and I wanted a chance to play.  They worked well in my Big Shot.  I cut out two of the medallions, one in each of the two colours, and pieced them back together for the multi-colour look.  You can also use each of the three layers separately if you want (although they all cut together)

Items Used:
*Cardstock:  Staples White; Stampin' Up! Basic Black, Pink Pirouette, Kiwi Kiss
*Images:  PaperTreyInk Mega Mixed Messages
*Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black
*Tools:  Big Shot; dies from nellies-choice.com; Stampin' Up! circle punches
*Embellishments:  Stampin' Up! Decorative Brad

*Double Challenges*

Good morning everyone... has everyone started to recover from their turkey comas?  We have enough left overs for one more day of sandwiches and then the turkey is done until next time.  I am one of those strange people who prefers turkey as left overs, in a wonderful toasted turkey sandwich.  I could care less if I get any fresh from the oven.

I was pleased to discover that I haven't gained the usual 5 pounds over the last few weeks... only up a half pound from where I was.  I can handle that.  My plan is to get to the gym in the new year once my company is all gone and to get back to making healthy food choices again.  I've gained some pounds over the last few years and I want to celebrate my 40th birthday as a slimmer, more healthy version of me!

I created this card earlier this week when Mom, Heather and I did some crafting.  It was sad for me to put away my Christmas papers and ribbons and stamps and get back to regular every day creating. (I really do love my Christmas craft stuff!).  I decided to follow the MojoMonday Sketch as well as a Splitcoast Colour Challenge.

Items Used:
*Cardstock:  Stampin Up! Sahara Sand, Real Red, Crushed Curry
*Images:  Stampin' Up!
*Ink:  Stampin' Up! Real Red
*Tools:  Big Shot; Swiss Dots Cuttlebug folder; Nestabilities
*Embellishments:  Stampin' Up! Crushed Curry ribbon; Michael's bridal flowers coloured with Stampin' Up! markers; red Kaiser Pearl
*Challenges:  Mojo118; SCS Colour Challenge#250

*Merry Christmas*

Here it is, Christmas afternoon.... I am using my laptop on my new laptop lap desk.... the presents are all unwrapped, most of the mess is cleaned up, the turkey is stuffed and in the oven and the veggies are all ready to just be turned on in a few hours.

We have had a wonderful couple of days.  Last night our good friends came by for nibble and games, although we never got to the games.  We had a great night chatting and laughing.  This morning my father in law joined us for gift opening and brunch, and this evening my mother in law and her husband will be joining us for dinner.  I would like to get the table set in the next little while as well as a plate of sweets that we'll serve after dinner.

I was spoiled with some fun things this year.... two great bowling balls from my sons, a GPS unit from Bruce, a new knife and Spellbinders from my Mom, Wii Fit Plus and a book from my sister and niece, this laptop desk from my other sister, a pretty necklace from Shannon and Hailey.  Definitely got spoiled!

I have one final Christmas card to share with you today...

I made this card on Wednesday using the blue piece that I had punched with my new Martha Stewart corner and edge punches that I bought a few weeks ago.  I punched this piece just to see how it worked and then set it aside.  Mom liked this card so  much that she made one as well!

Items Used:
*Cardstock:  blue shimmer by unknown; Bazzill bling white
*Tools:  Martha Stewart Corner and Edger Punches; Marvy Snowflake punches
*Embellishments:  Karen Foster glitter brad

As a self-proclaimed snowflake freak, I think this card is perfect!!

Merry Christmas everyone!!

*Running Out Of Things To Share*

Not a good thing....  after today, I have only one card left to share with you!  Perhaps today my Mom, sister and I will have to craft for a bit.  I don't want to leave you coming back to my blog with nothing fun to see!

I wasn't sure I'd ever get all the cards shown this year since I kept showing new ones as I made them instead of showing them in the order in which they were created.

And I am very pleased to report that I have surpassed the number of cards made last year.... last year I did 157 different designs.... and the card I am sharing today is #171!  WOO HOO!!!

I don't have the information on this card so you'll have to hate me if you really wanted to know the details....  I know I used a sketch but I have no idea which one or from where.  The papers are Stampin' Up! Whisper White and some Bazzill Bling;  The swirl is Dot Flourishes by InkADinkADoo, snowflakes are by someone else (LOL), and the sentiment is PaperTreyInk Signature Christmas.  I stamped the images across all three layers in Encore Ultimate Metallic blue ink and then embossed it, I think, in silver pearl embossing powder.  At least I think that's what I did for ink.  And I think those are sparkly brads on the card... hard to tell for sure and I mailed off the original.

So I kinda knew a lot more about the card than I thought I did... but not all of it.  Sorry about that.

I hope that you don't need to hit the malls today... I understand that the malls in Calgary were *very* busy yesterday.  Line ups to get into the parking lots and no parking spaces to be found.  I think I would have turned around and gone home!  I need to head out to get my Christmas groceries today and that's it.  Done done done.  Wrapping was finished yesterday.  Baking is done.  Bring.  It.  On!!!

*Two Down, One To Go*

One more family member to go.  At least of the family that is traveling to Calgary for the holidays.  Rachael arrived 45 minutes late on Friday night.  It's been nice having her here... hope she wasn't too bored.  My Mom arrived this afternoon 90 minutes late (something about mechanical problems with the plane during it's first of three legs).  And tomorrow morning my sister Heather arrives.

Unfortunately my other sister (Sandra) and her family (husband and two girls) are not able to join us this Christmas.

We will have a full house for dinner on Friday...  there will be 10 at our table this year.  I will be doing the big grocery shopping trip on Wednesday for turkey and all the fixings.

I am almost ready for the big day...  I need to finish wrapping... and I don't wanna do it LOL.  I hate wrapping the little things and after a while, I get tired of wrapping the big things too.  I like wrapping birthday presents...  it's usually just one or two at a time and I can take my time to make it pretty... when doing so much wrapping it can be overwhelming so I just plow through it to get it done.

The card for today is another that I made a while back.  I don't still have the sticky note with the information on it, but I seem to recall that I made it following a sketch I had found.   The image and patterned paper are both Imaginisce, I used Stampin' Up! Bashful Blue and PaperTreyInk white cardstocks, Memento Tuxedo Black ink and my Copic markers.  I added some paper piercing around the edges of the card to finish it off.

Nothing too exciting, but I like it.  I sure love that little polar bear image!

I hope you find some time in the next few days to stop, breathe and enjoy the days leading up to Christmas.

*Starting The Next Countdown*

Rachael arrived safe and sound last night...  her flight was late leaving and thus late arriving so by the time she got here, we were all tired.  No visiting for us other than that chit chat in the car on the way home from the airport.  We came home, got her settled and we were all off to bed.

Now we can focus on the next countdown...  2 sleeps until my Mom arrives!

I will know the airport like the back of my hand soon!  Someone suggested I ask for preferred frequent parking LOL

We're off tonight to an annual Christmas Party that friends of ours host.  There's always a lot of food and we always have a good time.

This is a card I created a while back.  It was all made with sparkly and shiny things, but I think it could have used another colour to just pop it a little.  I made this right after I discovered Mercy's Tuesday Sketch Challenges.

Items Used:
*Cardstock:  Bazill Bling; Staples White
*Images:  The Angel Company
*Ink:  Encore Ultimate Metallic blue embossed with Silver Pearl powder
*Tools:  Big Shot; Nestabilities
*Embellishments:  Imaginisce Brads
*Challenges MTSC42

*And So It Begins*

Let the festivities begin!

Our first holiday houseguest arrives tonight and we'll have two more trips to the airport early next week.  The kids are done school today (Matthew at noon and Alex at 3).  We had our first holiday party last night with another tomorrow night.

And a week from now Santa will have been and gone, presents will be open, turkey will be in the oven!

Is it just me or does time just fly??!!

Today you're going to get a little treat as I share two creations with you.... Why? you ask....  because I really really don't like the card I'm going to show you so I thought I'd better share something good too LOL!

I had a vision in my head for this card using Mercy's Tuesday Sketch Challenge...  I think I chose the wrong colours of cardstock for the card though...

Items Used:
*Cardstock:  Stampin' Up! glossy; Bazzill Bling; Coredinations
*Images:  Impression Obsession
*Ink:  Adirondak Inks (with Blending Solution); Memento Tuxedo Black

*Tools:  Big Shot; Nestabilities; Marvy Snowflake Punch; D'Vine Swirl Cuttlebug embossing folder
*Embellishments:  Karen Foster brad

These are some tags I created for the two ladies I bowl with on Thursday afternoons.  I gave them to them yesterday.  Unfortunately, the one lady doesn't really do gifts so she wouldn't use them... so we gave both sets to the other lady.  I felt bad that I chose a little something that didn't work out... next year I'll have to do something different.

I used a variety of items on these tags...  I think my favourite is the white, pink and green one... I finally got to use my Hero Arts snowflake border stamp that I bought at Michaels (click on the photo to be able to see it better).

So... that's it for today!  I hope to craft a little today as I don't know when I'll get another chance....  and I don't wanna run out of items to post for you!

Happy week before Christmas!

*One More Sleep*

The first of my Christmas related countdowns is coming to an end.... tomorrow night my niece Rachael arrives from Ontario.  She usually comes with her Mom (my sister Heather) but she wanted to spend a few days with us on her own so she's coming a few days earlier than Heather and my Mom.  I'm really looking forward to spending some time with her as well, although I have this awful feeling that she will want to hit the new mall this weekend....  and I hate malls the week before Christmas.

But I love her so I will suck it up.

The next count down is 4 more sleeps until my Mom comes!

The card I'm sharing today would have been better had I used a different image.  There was one I borrowed from one of the CalGals last year of two snowmen in an embrace that would have been perfect, but I didn't have any more of the images I had stamped off.  None of my other images was going to work quite like how I wanted it to.  This was the closest I could find.

Items Used:
*Cardstock:  Stampin' Up! Whisper White, Night of Navy
*Images:  Michael's cheap stamp
*Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black; Stampin' Up! Markers
*Tools:  Big Shot; Snowflakes Cuttlebug embossing folder; dots Sizzix embossing folder; Stampin' Up! Scallop border punch; Nestabilities
*Embellishments:  Stampin' Up! grosgrain ribbon
*Challenges:  C4C15 and Mojo117

Yup, I combined two challenges this week....  the Crazy4Challenges challenge was to create a card with snowflakes or snowmen....  and the sketch if Mojo117.

*Too Little?*

Happy Wednesday everyone... kind of a busy one for me today.  Once Bruce is home from the gym I am going to run out to do some errands that include some Christmas shopping, a return, and looking for a top to wear with black dress pants to a Christmas party tomorrow night.  I have a hair appointment at noon to get it trimmed up and get my highlights and lowlights done again.  Then Matthew needs to be taken to drums and I will probably stop at the grocery store while he's at drums to find something to make for dinner.

Go go go

Bruce is all excited as the new laptop he ordered for our business is out for delivery today (it was supposed to arrive yesterday but it didn't make it on a truck apparently).  So we're being careful to ensure there is one of us home all day as an adult must sign for the delivery.  He's like a little kid at Christmas LOL!

I was happy to see one more sketch for 2010 on Beate's blog on Friday.  I wish I had had my thoughts together on Friday to have borrowed Merlie's Nestabilities in the shape shown on the sketch....  instead I had to use what I had on hand.

Items Used:
*Cardstock:  Stampin' Up! Old Olive, Riding Hood Red, Very Vanilla
*Patterned Paper:  Imaginisce
*Images:  Hero Arts Holiday Cheer
*Ink:  Stampin' Up! Old Olive
*Tools:  Big Shot; Labels 2 Nestabilities; Spellbinders snowflake die
*Challenges:  WSC110

Now, the question is.... should I have done this card a little differently and added some texture to the green layer??? Maybe a vanilla card with a smaller green layer sent through the Big Shot with an embossing folder?

I like the card....  but I wonder if I'm missing something?

*Ouch!!*

I was a busy girl this morning... by 8am I was baking as I wanted to get the last of it done today.  I got the butter tarts made and in the oven and then started on the poppycock (caramel corn).  I got everything ready and was pouring the homemade caramel over the popcorn and started stirring.... and some of the caramel got on my right index finger and stuck.... and I got an instant blister.

It's making typing a little difficult.  I'm trying to avoid using that finger.

I think I will live...

LOL

But hey, once that timer goes off, my part of the Christmas baking is done!!  Mom will come next week and she'll help me make poppyseed roll (I've never made it before).  Heather is brining stuff too.

I'm off to the eye doctor in a while to have some sort of dilation test done on my eyes.  I don't even remember why this test was recommended.  All I know is that I was told not to drive so I have no idea what I'll be able to do this afternoon....  computer?  read?  tv?  craft?

I plan on doing a few challenge cards before I head off, just in case I can't craft any more later.  If I can, though, I hope to craft this afternoon.

This card follows the sketch for the Splitcoast Stampers Sketch Challenge from last week.  Once I decided what I wanted to use for paper and images, the card came together rather quickly.

Items Used
*Cardstock:  Stampin' Up! Garden Green; PaperTreyInk White
*Patterned Paper:  Imaginisce
*Images:  Great Impressions
*Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black; Copics
*Embellishments:  grosgrain ribbon
*Challenges:  SC258

*Comment Moderation*

Sorry folks... have been getting several spam comments a day over the last few days so I guess I'm going to have to turn on the stupid "type this captcha before you continue"....  I hate that....

I will turn it off again in a few weeks

Please don't stop commenting!!!!

*Last day of Deep Freeze...*

... at least for now.  One more cold day to endure before our temperatures warm up to seasonal averages tomorrow and then above seasonal (and above the freezing mark) for at least a few days.  Our snow packed roads are going to be some kind of ugly later this week....

But I can live with that.

I will just be happy to lose the cold cold weather!  Makes it really tough to get out of my warm, cozy and comfy bed in the mornings!  And it seems like the furnace is almost running non-stop.

I created this card for Mercy's Tuesday Sketch Challenge last week....  I think that there should have been more going on with my top white layer, but I don't know what that would have been.  Again, it's an OK card....  at least in my opinion

Items Used:
*Cardstock:  PaperTreyInk White; Stampin' Up! Basic Black
*Patterned Paper:  K&Company; Imaginisce
*Images:  unknown
*Ink:  Gold Brilliance embossed with detail gold embossing powder
*Tools:  Corner Chomper
*Embellishments:  Kaiser Pearls
*Challenges:  MTSC51

*Late On Sunday*

It's been a busy but fun weekend around here... CalGals on Friday night, Alex's Christmas piano recital Saturday afternoon, UFC night at a friends' Saturday night, a qualifying round for a bowling tournament this morning, and my regular league bowling coming up tonight.  It's very very cold here and all I really want to do is curl up with a blanket, a good book, and hot chocolate with Bailey's in it.

Maybe all of that will happen after bowling tonight.... but I'll substitute CSI from Thursday night for the book.

This is the card I created on Friday night using the challenge that Tracy provided for us.  I'm not thrilled with my card, but it's not that bad.  Be sure to click on Merlie and Tracy's names in my sidebar to see what they created using this sketch from the Inspiration in Action sketch challenge....

Items Used:
*Cardstock:  Stampin' Up! Whisper White, Riding Hood Red; Coredinations
*Patterned Paper:  Imaginisce
*Images:  PaperTreyInk Signature Christmas
*Ink:  Stampin' Up! Riding Hood Red
*Tools:  Stampin' Up! Scallop Border punch
*Embellishments:  Doodlebug Sugar Coated brads; grosgrain ribbon

*A Night of Fun*

Half of the CalGals met at my house last night for the last time in 2009.  It was too bad that Shannon, Dianne and Allison were unable to make it, but Merlie, Tracy and I had fun.  We spent the first hour and a half just chatting, and then it got quiet in my craft cave when we all started crafting.  Tracy had a challenge sketch for us to try which I will show you once I can take a photo (the window I take photos near isn't bright enough yet).

Instead I will share a card I made on Thursday for the Tuesday Morning Sketch for this week.

Items Used:
*Cardstock:  PaperTreyInk White; Stampin' Up! Garden Green, Riding Hood Red
*Patterned Paper:  American Crafts
*Images:  PaperTreyInk Signature Christmas; Great Impressions
*Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black; VersaFine Onyx Black; Stampin' Up! Markers
*Embellishments:  Kaiser Pearls
*Challenges:  TMS23

The hardest part of this card was finding a circle to use to shape the patterned paper piece.  I ended up in my kitchen with tins and bowls and plates until I found one that would work.

We're off in a bit to listen to Alex (and a bunch of other kids) play in a Christmas piano recital.  I think Alex should have practiced a little more as he's still stumbling over a few spots in "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch", but as long as he's happy with what he's doing, we're happy.  I like this proud mom moments!

Enjoy your Saturday!

*Ho Ho Mojo*

OK, maybe not the right title for my post today since there is no Santa on my card.  But it is a Christmas card, so it almost counts.

Just a quick post from me this morning...  once we know that Alex is on his bus and on the way to school (by this I mean that the bus showed up), we are off to the gym.  2nd time this week for me....  2nd time in a month too.  I *need* to get back in the habit.  Should have waited until after Christmas LOL

Items Used:
*Cardstock:  Stampin' Up! Riding Hood Red, Close to Cocoa; Paper Trey Ink White
*Patterned Paper:  Imaginice
*Images:  AMuse
*Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black; Copics
*Tools:  Big Shot; Nestabilities; Snowflakes Cuttlebug embossing folder
*Embellishments: Stampin' Up! ribbon
*Challenges:  Mojo116

I really really like this sketch now that I've done one....   I might have to create some more in this style... maybe try it as a non-holiday card!

Enjoy your Friday!

*More Freakin' Snow*

Because the snow we got this past weekend (along with some wonderful (sigh) drifts) wasn't quite enough, Mother Nature gave us more snow overnight.  Things are a slick mess outside.

Thankfully it wasn't more than a few centimeters, but seriously?  I'm done with the snow!

We had such a beautiful November and we are paying for it in December!

The forecast is for bone chilling temperatures later in the week (weekend).... and more snow over the next few days.

I wish we had a tropical vacation planned and paid for!

I made this card the other day following the sketch for this week's challenge over on Beate's Blog.  It didn't turn out quite the way I saw it in my head, but it's not a bad card.  Just not quite what I had envisioned.

Items Used:
*Cardstock:  Stampin' Up! Whisper White; Bazzill Bling
*Images:  PaperTreyInk Signature Christmas
*Ink:  Mediterranean Blue Brilliance
*Tools:  Marvy snowflake punches
*Embellishments:  Stampin' Up! grosgrain ribbon; Kaiser Pearls; Kaiser Rhinestones

*Been Busy!*

As promised, I'm back for a second post today.

I've been busy.... I went to the gym, came home and got cleaned up, have made 4 dozen whipped shortbread cookies, 1 dozen more cinnamon buns, wrapped a bunch of presents, run out to do a few errands, fed Shannon's cat...

But I promised to come back and share another card with you, so here I am!

I wasn't sure I was going to do the Splitcoast Sketch Challenge that was posted last Wednesday, but I finally decided to just sit and play with it the other day.

Items Used:
*Cardstock:  Stampin' Up! Basic Black, Baja Breeze, Riding Hood Red; PaperTreyInk white
*Images:  The Angel Company Little Penguins
*Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black; Copics
*Tools:  We R Memory Keepers Corner Chomper (yup, I got a new toy!)
*Embellishments:  Stampin' Up! Black Brads
