I've seen lots of cards lately where people have used an open flower stamp on patterned papers, cut out the petals and re-assembled the flower. I've also seen a handful of cards where someone has created a flower using their oval punch.
I decided to play with that idea earlier this week.
I started out with some ideas from PageMaps and came up with this layout. The colour combination came from the Deja Views paper I wanted to use. The larger green piece was difficult for me to use... it's the backside of the striped patterned paper and while this colour and texture were perfect for this card, I hate that I wasted a piece of that beautiful striped paper. I guess I'll have to go shopping for more!
To create the flower, I punched out 8 petals with my oval punch (4 each of two different papers). I also punched out a circle in a scrap of cardstock. I glued four petals down on the circle in a + formation, then glued the other four in the same manner in between the first four. The scrap of cardstock showed through the centre so I added a large bling brad in the centre of the flower. You'll also notice some dots around the edges of the petals... I added those at the last minute as the petals just needed something. There are also dots along the centre of the blue strip as well as added under the ends of the sentiment.
