*Fabulous Day*

Good morning all.. just a quickie from me as I have a few errands to run before heading off to do a few hours of work with Christy (with a break for another errand in the middle).

I am enjoying Spring Break without alarm clocks!  I can't wait until Bruce and I are both retired and we will only have to use the alarm clock once in a while.

Surprisingly, the sun has made an appearance today.... the first time in about a week.  It's a welcome sight!

I created this card on Saturday night while everyone else was busy doing something else....  Sadly the mojo wasn't flowing enough to make a wonderfully productive evening, but at least I got a few cards done!
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White; Stampin' Up! Basic Black, Cherry Cobbler
*Images: PTI Signature Greetings
*Ink: Versafine Onyx Black
*Tools: Big Shot; Cuttlebug embossing foler
*Embellishments: Icicle Stickles
*Challenges: Stamping Vacation; Use It Tuesday #4

This was another of the Stamping Vacation challenges... the only tool you could use was an embossing folder.  And I decided to do another red card for the Use It Tuesday #4...

Enjoy your Tuesday!

*I Hate Cleaning House*

Ahhhhh, Sunday.... I can say that now that the house is clean again.  I really hate cleaning the house.  I love that my husband and sons help, but I still hate the process.

Hate it.

Ick.

Now all that's left that has to be done today is getting a few groceries and finishing the laundry.

I enjoyed a quiet evening to myself for a while last night... and then I got bored.  The kids were busy with their games and Bruce was out.  I crafted a bit, watched some TV on Netflix, and then gave up and went to bed around 11... where I couldn't fall asleep.  Wasn't a stellar night, but it wasn't horrible either.

This is one of the cards I created last night....  once again, fulfilling the elements of two challenges....
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White
*Images: PTI Beautiful Blooms; My Sentiments Exactly Little Birdie
*Ink: Brilliance Rocket Red; VersaMagic Tea Leaves
*Challenges:  Use It Tuesday #4; Stamping Vacation

Let me tell you about these two challenges.... first, Use It Tuesday #4 is a challenge to use red as the predominant colour on your card, showing support for the devastation in Japan.  The people behind the Use It Tuesday blog are going to make a donation to the Red Cross based on the number of entries they get in the challenge... so please make a card that is clean and simple with red being the predominant colour.  You'll find their blog HERE.  You have until April 1st to play along....

The second challenge is a new one to me... thanks to Allison (see her link under CalGals) for pointing me in the right direction.  It is called Stamping Vacation.  It would appear that they put up a new challenge daily and right now you have until the end of April to participate.  This challenge was to make a one layer card with a lot of white space.

*To You From Me*

Happy Saturday my friends... we're having a good day so far....  I slept in, had a very lazy morning, we went to the mall for lunch in the food court and for Matthew to spend a little of his birthday money.  Then we came home and I've spent the last few hours doing some work.

Bruce is going out tonight so it's just the kids and I.... I have no clue what we're going to do about dinner (and it's already after 4!) but my plan for this evening is either to watch and movie while I craft, or just watch a movie.  Or maybe both LOL!

I figured that by getting some of the work I have to do out of the way, that I would feel more free to actually play and relax.  I hope it works.  I have a feeling I will spend more time working instead... to plow through the work that I have here at the house that needs to be done for later in the week.  Who knows what will really happen.

At any rate, I won't have nothing to do tonight LOL!

I created this card yesterday to fulfill the needs of two different challenges.  The more I look at it, I wish I had added a purple layer behind the green to make it pop a little more....
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White; Stampin' Up! Bashful Blue, Concord Crush, Kiwi Kiss
*Images: Stampin' Up! Friendship Blooms, Best Yet
*Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics
*Tools: Big Shot; D'vine Swirl Cuttlebug embossing folder; Spellbinders Lacey Circles
*Embellishments: twine from The Twinery
*Challenges:  Mojo183; ColourQ77

Yup, I really should have added some purple behind the green layers....  at least the Cuttlebugged one.

Enjoy your Saturday!

*Shabby Chic Flowers*

Happy Friday everyone.... and welcome to the start of Spring Break for my kids!  Matthew had yesterday and today off thanks to Parent Teacher interviews and Alex is at school today... but then the only alarm clock in our house will be for Bruce to get up to go to work.

I hate my alarm clock so this is going to be a wonderful break!

The kids are at the age that they just want me to leave them alone for the week they are off.  We'll see if I let that happen or not LOL!  I will have some work to get done during the week, but there will still be some time to get out and do some stuff together if we decide to.

I had fun creating the card for this weeks' Fall To Layout.  At first I was worried because Natasha designed the sketch with the thoughts of people using some of those beautiful but bulky embellishments that don't go through the mail very well.  I'm not drawn to such embellishments so I had nothing here to play with.

Instead I created some very dimensional flowers with the Blossom die from Spellbinders...  I cut 5 layers for each flower out of patterned paper and then spritzed them well with water.  I then scrunched them all up and let them dry before flattening them somewhat.  I then rubbed them with the Rich Cocoa Memento ink to give them that "shabby chic" look..
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White; Stampin' Up! Marina Mist
*Pattern Paper: Basic Grey
*Images: Stampin' Up! All Year Cheer I
*Ink: Memento Rich Cocoa
*Tools: Big Shot; Spellbinders Nestabilities Blossom
*Embellishments: Doodlebug sugared brads (coloured with a Copic marker)
*Challenges:  FTL133

This will be one of those cards I'll have to hand deliver... and I already know who it's going to be for!

I know a lot of people are intimidated by the more clean and simple cards.... I challenge you to head over to the Clean and Simple blog and play along with the sketch for this week.  I know it took me quite a while to even try the clean and simple look....  and then a while longer to really find my groove with it.... and now it's the style I seem to prefer!

*Hello Mickey*

A few months ago, friends of ours started planning a surprise trip to Disneyland for their family, including two teenaged kids.  The plan was to keep the trip a secret until the morning they were to be leaving.  I was asked to create cards for the parents to hide in the kids' suitcases.... they were going to be sent to get their suitcases to travel to visit Grandma and Grandpa for part of Spring Break.

Well, today was the big day.  Last night, Mom and Dad sent them down to get their suitcases as they were going to leave for Grandma's right after school today....  instead they left at 11 this morning for 8 days in California.

My good friend Tracy let me use some of her Disney stuff (see her link on the right side under CalGals) and I created two cards like this...
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White; Stampin' Up! Summer Sun, Basic Black, Real Red
*Pattern Paper: unknown
*Tools: Stampin' Up! flower punch
*Embellishments: unknown Mickey "bling"; Thickers

Nothing too fancy, but I think that the cards would have gotten the word across.

I can't wait for them to get home next Friday to tell us all about their trip!

*Attempt At A Masculine Card*

The challenge over at Less is More this week is to create a masculine card.  Gah!

I don't know how many of you remember this, but I never make cards for guys.  Everything I want to do makes the card look too girly.  I have a really tough time with it.

My first thought when I read masculine card was the colour combination .... black, white and red.  Not that those colours are only used for a masculine card, but it's what came to my head.

And then I broke out the Lattice Sizzix die from Stampin' Up! (that I bought months ago and had never used) and went to work.

I don't know how masculine the card is, but ....
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White; Stampin' Up! Basic Black, Riding Hood Red
*Images: Impress
*Ink: Versafine Onyx Black
*Tools: Big Shot; Stampin' Up! Sizzix Lattice die

It took everything in me to not add some bling to this card!!!

*Lifetime Treasures*

I enjoyed some quiet time in my craft space this afternoon and managed to create a couple of cards.  I am hoping to make a card or two again tonight as Bruce offered to take the kids to Taekwon Do.  I was thinking I would be taking them since he was late getting home from work and was just starting to eat his dinner as we were finishing up.  I appreciate that he took them... I've been chilled all day and the hall where the kids take their class is kept pretty cool (which is a good thing if you're the one working out, but not if you're the one sitting around waiting!).  One night I might have to take a sleeping bag to go with my slippers and sweater LOL!

This is one of the cards I created this afternoon, using the colours laid out in the challenge over on the Scrapbookers Paradise blog.
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White
*Images: PTI Beautiful Blooms; unknown sentiment
*Ink: Stampin' Up! Night of Navy, Pear Pizazz, Melon Mambo

*Kinda Funky Thanks*

I sure hope that Mother Nature got the memo today, that it's the start of spring.  We were under a heavy snowfall warning for a while, predicting up to 20cms of snow before Monday morning however the snow was nothing more than a dusting and they've canceled the warning.

I spent yesterday at an amazing event here in Calgary called Crop4Kids.  One of the designers for MondayNightClass.ca has put this crop on for three years now, raising money to support the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation.  Money is raised in a variety of ways over the 12 hour crop including prize draws, a 50/50 raffle, and this year, they auctioned off a few of the bigger names in Scrapbooking in Western Canada... the winning bidders got to have the scrapbook diva of their choice sit with them at the crop for an hour, to pick their brain on their layouts and ideas. It was a great event and I hope that Jen will go ahead and do it again next year!

I finally had the time and a little mojo to put together my card for the current Clean and Simple challenge. A friend of mine asked me to make a thank you card for her to use so I thought that this challenge would be perfect for a funky card.

*I'm All Ready*

Well, I managed to get all of my work done this afternoon.  All of the kits are prepared for the Crop4Kids being held in Calgary tomorrow.  When I looked at the pile of product that had to be cut and counted and sorted out, I seriously thought I'd be working for a a lot longer than 4 hours!

I have a handful of 13 and 14 year old boys in my family room, shooting at things and eating themselves silly.  Bruce and I are hanging out in the basement in my craft space, catching up on TV from the last week.  I am thinking I might try some creating tonight... I have a few challenges I'd like to tackle!

Tomorrow I'll be at the Crop4Kids all day working for MondayNightClass.ca.  It's going to be a long day, but it's going to be a good day I'm sure!

I created this card a few weeks ago.  I saw that PaperCrafts magazine was doing a design call for their new card sketches magazine so I printed off their sketches and started playing.  I was going to submit the cards I created but decided I'd rather share them on my blog than keep them to myself until I found out if they were published or not.  Maybe next time.
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White; Stampin' Up! Baja Breeze, Real Red, Old Olive
*Images: Impress
*Ink: VersaFine Onyx Black; black felt pen
*Tools: Stampin' Up! circle punch

I really like how this card turned out.  I first let the card sit on my desk for a day or two without the black dots.... but I am so glad that I added them.  It was just what the card needed to finish it off.

I hope you all enjoy your weekend!  I'll be back on Sunday or Monday with another post!

*Happy St Patrick's Day*

I hope you all remembered to put on something green today...  I found it a great excuse to break out my green spring/summer cardigan over a white t-shirt.... I sure looked like spring today!

Today is also an important day in our house as 14 years ago today our son Matthew was born!  I can't believe my baby is 14!!!!  We did his big birthday dinner with family and friends on Tuesday and I'm making him meatloaf (his choice!) for dinner tonight.  Tomorrow a few of his friends are coming over to hang out and eat and have cake and play video games.  Sounds like a good birthday to me!

Sadly, my card today has nothing to do with Matthew, the #14 or green.... but it is a birthday card LOL
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White; Bazill Bling
*Pattern Paper: Stampin' Up!
*Images: Lizzie Anne JOlies fleurs; The Cat's Pajamas Say It's Your Birthday
*Ink: Copic Spica; Memento Tuxedo Black; Brilliance Pearlescent Sky Blue
*Embellishments: buttons from Michaels; Stampin' Up! grosgrain
*Challenges:  Mojo81

Thanks for stopping by!!!  I may not have a chance to post for the next day or two as I've got a schwack of work to get done for an event that MondayNightClass is involved with on Saturday... we will be at Crop4Kids, an event that benefits the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation.

*Paradise Sketch*

I've got a busy few days ahead of me and I don't think that there will be any playing.  If I can get the work done in time, I hope to be able to pack up some of my stuff to take to the Crop4Kids that I am working at on Saturday.  This is a great crop with lots of fun classes, that benefits the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation.  I am working, but will have some time to do my own thing, so if I have time after doing all the preparations I need to do, I will pack up some of my stuff so I can try to play on Saturday.

I'll probably just end up putting off the playing until Sunday though....
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White; Stampin' Up! Pretty In Pink, Pear Pizazz
*Pattern Paper:  Doodlebug
*Ink: Stampin' Up! Pretty In Pink, Pear Pizazz
*Tools: Big Shot; Swiss Dots Cuttlebug embossing folder; Spellbinders Nestabilities Blossoms die; Stampin' Up! border punch; Bow Easy
*Embellishments: unknown grosgrain ribbon; Doodlebug sugared brad
*Challenges:  Playing in Paradise #6

I am not thrilled with this card.  It's not bad, but not great either.  I think that the problem is that it just doesn't fully reflect who I am as a creative person...  I dunno.  It's not terrible.... just not "me"

*Nothing To Talk About*

You know, I am having a tough time thinking of something to chit chat about today... so I think I will post the card, talk about it a bit, and then go on with my day...

I hope that is OK with you!!

*Cardstock: PTI White
*Images: CTMH From Me To You, unknown Sentiment
*Ink: Stampin' Up! Daffodil Delight, Kiwi Kiss, Old Olive, Early Espresso

I love how clean and simple this card is....

The Less Is More challenge for this week was a one layer card that goes "off the edge".  Mine doesn't go far off the edge, but it is off the edge.

One layer cards used to scare the crap out of me.... and now I find them fun!

I hope you'll enjoy your day!  Happy Creating!

*Splendiferous Buttons*

OK.... I have to admit.... I love the time change in the spring.  I grew up in a part of Canada that does not observe the time change so it's always been a big deal to remember to change our clocks twice a year (we only forgot once... the Spring of 1997, when Matthew was only weeks old.  We knew it was coming, but we forgot to change the clocks until dinner time on the Sunday!).  But in that part of Canada, the sun comes up so freakin' early in the summertime that the birds are lucky the we sleep lovers don't have a way to end their lives!

I love that during the spring and summer, the sun is up so late in the evening.

I love that right now we are enjoying it lighter past dinner time.

But I hate that we've gone back to 7am being dark.  It's so much easier to get out of bed when the sun gets up before you do!

I played just a little bit this weekend....  I had planned on doing a lot more but I totally felt lazy.  Creating just sounded like a lot of work LOL

The challenge this time at UseItTuesday was a sketch....  I had a tough time with it.... I don't think it was the sketch, more the amount of Mojo I had flowing at the time.  I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out, though

*Sunshine On A Sunday*

Happy Sunday everyone... it is bright and sunny here in Calgary, and well above the freezing mark, which is a real treat!  While cleaning the house this morning we had some window open.... not quite warm enough for that but the fresh air was wonderful!

I had a tough time creating a card for this weeks sketch over at the Clean and Simple blog.  I had an idea in my head but then the items I wanted to use were too big.  So I had another idea, but that didn't work.  So I ended up having to use two different sizes of embellishments instead of three different sizes.  It's pretty close to what my original idea was, but not exactly what I had pictured in my mind.
Items Used:

*Images: unknown sentiment
*Ink: Stampin' Up! Early Espresso

The combination of the flowers and the white and yellow just screams SPRING to me!

I hope you will all find a little time in your week to play along with our sketch this week!  Head on over to the Clean and Simple blog (the link is in the right sidebar) for more inspiration!

*ColourQ Mojo*

I'm happy to report that the Vet believes that Milo (aka chicken bone boy) is going to be just fine.  We were back at the vet office today for more Xrays and things look OK...  We are going to have to keep an eye on him for a few more days, and keep him on the special canned food for another day or so, but it looks like all is well.

Such a relief as I couldn't even begin to imagine how expensive the surgery would have been!!!  Not to mention the thoughts I had of Milo not making it through the whole ordeal....

After the vet, I enjoyed a few hours with a stamping friend whom I haven't seen in a long time...  Glenna lives in the neighbourhood and our kids go to school together, but our lives are just so nuts that we haven't seen each other in forever.  We were going to play but ended up chatting for a few hours.  I then showed her how I colour with Copics and she coloured for a bit while we chatted.  It was great to have a chance to visit.

I created this card over a 24 hour period....  I pulled the colours for the ColourQ challenge and hemmed and hawed over what to do with them before deciding to put them with the current Mojo challenge.  And then it took a while for me actually put the card together.

I'm not sure I'm in love....
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White; Stampin' Up! Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Cool Caribbean
*Images: Verve Floral Whimsy; Rhona Farrer Swirls
*Ink: Versafine Onyx Black
*Tools: Stampin' Up! border punch; Big Shot; Spellbinders Nestabilities
*Embellishments: Michael's Bridal flower; Kaiser Rhinestone
*Challenges:  Mojo181; ColourQ75

I like it more than I thought I would as I was working on the card, but it just seems too much for my taste.  I think I had a different idea of how these colours would work together in my head.

I'm enjoying a quiet house today (and last night too)... Bruce went off to the mountains last night to go skiing with a friends of ours today.  Matthew is off with his Grandma celebrating his birthday a few days early, and Alex is at school now and then heading to a friends' house until tonight sometime.  I think I will celebrate a longer day of a quiet house by spending some time creating in my craft cave!

Enjoy your day!

*I'm Back!*

So glad to have my internet connection back!!!  I wasn't completely without it as I still had the 3G connection on my iPhone and was able to use it to tether to my laptop to access the internet with my laptop.  But it wasn't a great solution as I kept cringing thinking about what it might be doing to my cell phone bill!

So I cut down on my internet use since Tuesday afternoon... and have a lot work to do to catch up on my Google Reader items.

I created this card this morning for the Less Is More challenge this week, which was to use pastel colours...
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White
*Images: Stampin' Up! Baroque Motifs; unknown sentiment
*Ink: VersaMagic Aloe Vera, Pink Petunia, Spring Pansy, Sea Breeze
*Embellishments: Star Dust Stickles
*Challenges:  Less Is More #5

We had a little excitement in the house yesterday.... long story short, I discovered that our dog, Milo, got in to some chicken bones that weren't properly disposed of and he and I ended up at the vet for Xrays yesterday afternoon.  Things seem to be OK and he's his usual self.  We head back to the vet tomorrow for more Xrays to see how things are and hopefully there won't be a need for surgery.

Thanks for your patience while I was unable to post!

Hi Everyone... since yesterday afternoon we've been without a proper internet connection, which means I'm unable to update my blog with a card...

Please be patient!

I hope to be back with a card no later than tomorrow...

*A Quick Fly By*

Happy Monday everyone... just a really quick post from me as I am off to work in a few minutes.  I decided to shovel the driveway before I left for the gym them morning and that put me a few more minutes behind than I had hoped to be.

I created this card on Friday for the current challenge over at the Clean and Simple blog (check out the link on the right hand side!).  I absolutely love these quick and easy cards....  I used up a scrap of patterned paper to create this one
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White
*Pattern Paper: Best Creation

*Ink: Stampin' Up! Real Red
*Tools: Big Shot; Spellbinders Nestabilities Labels 14
*Embellishments: Stampin' Up! Real Red grosgrain ribbon; unknown ribbon
*Challenges:  FTL130

I was the lucky recipient of a padded envelope full of buttons on Friday, from my friend Roz.  I was thrilled to get a bunch of new colours of buttons to play with.  Perfect timing since I needed a button for this card!  Thanks Roz!!  You rock!

I really hope that you'll head over to the Clean and Simple blog to see the sketch that Natasha put together this week and play along with us!

*Cutting it Close*

The MojoMonday sketch has been in my To Do Folder since this past Monday... I kept looking at the sketch and had no idea what I wanted to do with it.

The Mojo just wasn't flowing.

I've sat here for hours looking at that sketch, not knowing what to do.  The collection of cards for the challenge ends this evening.....

This afternoon I forced myself to do something with it while watching Telemiracle (way to go, Saskatchewan....  $4.6 Million raised in 20 hours!!!  Second highest total in the telethon's 35 year history!)  Telemiracle has been a part of my life since I was 5 years old as my parents were a part of the original group of Kinsmen and Kinettes who organized this province wide telethon.  It made me sad to watch this year, knowing that this is the first year ever that my Mom has missed.  She would normally have called when the broadcast was over, to tell me how well they did.  I have made a donation for the last several years, and this year I made my donation in memory of my parents.

Anyway....  back to the card....  I have been writing down colour combinations I've liked from cards on other blogs and I used one of those combinations for this card.

*Another Friday*

Welcome to Friday my friends.... another weekend is upon us!  Sadly this weekend including a bottle drive in the cold weather for us.  Sniff sniff.  I sure hope it goes by quickly tomorrow as I'm really not looking forward to it!  But, working the bottle drive puts money into trust for us to pay for Alex's upcoming band trip, so it's worth the work.  Or so I keep telling myself.

I crafted just a little bit last night.  I wanted to create a card for the current Curtain Call Color Challenge.  I pulled the colours out yesterday and had been letting them roll around in my mind for a bit.

I like how it turned out...

*Three Squares Best Wishes*

Good morning everyone.... up and ready to face my day nice and early as I wanted a little time to create before running off to the dentist.  This afternoon I have my ladies bowling league and then late this afternoon I get to pick up Shannon's daughter Hailey (see the diebar to the right, under CalGals, to find Shannon's blog and some photos of her darling girl) from the day home and bring her here for about an hour.  I'm looking forward to spending a little time with her!

I created this card last night in only a few minutes... it is for two challenges... the current ColourQ and Less is More challenges....
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White; Stampin' Up! Pear Pizazz, Tangerine Tango, Bordering Blue, Early Espresso
*Images: PTI Mega Mixed Messages

Enjoy your day!!

*Friendship*

It's still cold here... warming up to around freezing tomorrow... for. one. day.

One. Freaking. Day.

What's the freakin' point???!

Mother Nature, what on earth did we do to deserve this crappy weather!!!???!!!

And the forecasters on the news yesterday were all saying that it looks like spring-like weather is still quite a ways off...

Sigh

Big big sigh

I miss my flip flops.

Hell, I'm just tired of wearing my winter coat and needing mittens!

Anyway.... enough of my complaining...

On to a card....
