I have a second card to share with you today, playing along with the current challenges at both the Paper Craft Crew and Paper Players.
Good morning! It's time for a new sketch at CAS Colours & Sketches. I saw this sketch and immediately thought of candy cane stripes... so I grabbed some patterned paper and off I went!
This patterned paper was just perfect with the different sized candy cane stripes....
And here it is... Christmas Eve. I'm working a half day today, sporting my ugly Christmas sweater with the rest of the staff at the Chiro clinic I work at. After today we all get a few days off which I think everyone is looking forward to.
Tonight our little family of four will be eating our big turkey dinner. We did this for the first time last year... we changed up Christmas not knowing how I'd feel a week after my 2nd round of chemo and we liked it so much we're copying it this year. Of course, we would love to have some extended family and some friends over to celebrate the holidays, but this is the year to keep it small. I am thankful my grown sons still live at home so that we don't have to have Christmas without them. I am hopeful that Christmas 2021 will look a little more like Christmas past.
I know it's not how many of us expected to see Christmas this year, but I do hope that each of you makes the best of what is... it's important for us all to do our part to stay healthy. I think maybe it will make all of us appreciate what we normally have, just a little more.

I totally love this fun patterned paper from Brutus Monroe... it's all candycane inspired. I was hoarding it for a bit this season but then decided it was time to just use it. I can find something else that I love next year LOL! I wasn't sure how this card would turn out when I first envisioned it, but I think it turned out almost as good as I hoped it would!
I'm back with another Gnome.... when you cut the image you can basically create two different gnomes by cutting it out of two different patterned papers and mixing and matching. It some ways it would be nice if the pieces were all separate, but they're not so you get a second card.
I just *had* to order this Simon Says Stamp gnome die last year.... but came after I was done my Christmas cards. So I guess I am pretty late to the game as it was used by a lot of people last year. I had it tucked away and almost forgot I owned it... and then stumbled across it when looking for something else the other day. I'm not sure this was the right paper to use, but I had to play...
I can't believe how fast the days are going by.... we are way more than half way through November already! I'm on track with making Christmas cards I think, but I am way behind on shopping. Not that I buy a lot... a buy a few things for a few special people and my little family of four each draws a name and we each buy for one person in the family. I need to get busy on some stocking ideas for my guys, though. It's a lot hard with trying to avoid going out.
This card started out as a white on white card... but then I decided to throw in the red for a little "boom"...

I took the words Sweater Weather pretty literally and used some great knit look paper from Brutus Monroe to create a Starburst card. There are lots of ideas out there for Starburst cards, but here's a link to the one I used.
I started out by cutting out the pieces of patterned paper as shown HERE. I then played around with placement of those pieces before I started gluing them down. Glue worked well for this (I am usually a double sided adhesive girl) as it gives you a little time to play with placement. You can make a mess at the "centre" mark as it will be covered. I took the time to lay out the pieces in the order I was going to place them so that I didn't have to mess around while gluing things to my backer piece.
Here you can see all of the pieces glued down... this was a lot more work that I'm used to doing on a card, but certainly not too much work. I think the second card I make like this will be a lot easier... the first one is always a little more work as you're trying to figuring things out.
As you can see from the photo above, the pieces are all longer than they need to be.... I simply took my sharp scissors and cut off the edges once everything was dry.
I think there are SO many options for this technique... it all depends on what you place over that mess in the centre. I've seen lots of different ideas for the Starburst technique... google it (or search it on Pinterest).
