*My CalGals Creation*

Monday already???  Could someone please explain to me how a weekend goes by so fast???

We had a good weekend... a nice mix of relaxing family time and time out of the house with friends.

I will admit to being very done with winter this year....  I can't wait for spring and the warmer weather that should come with the change in seasons.  I hope March shows us some improvement!!

This is the only card I created on Friday night when the CalGals were here...
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White
*Pattern Paper: Imaginisce
*Images: Amuse
*Ink: VersaFine Onyx Black; black felt tipped pen
*Tools: assorted Stampin' Up! circle punches; Spellbinders Nestabilities; Big Shot

*Embellishments:  Stickles
*Challenges:  Use It Tuesday#2

This card is for the challenge over at Use It Tuesday... they challenged us to cut in to a piece of scrapbook paper that we treasure.  I don't really have a paper that I truly treasure but this one came close.  I love the colours and the pattern to this paper and I hate that it's discontinued....  but I don't mind playing with it when the right time comes.

*Glitter and Sparkle*

It was great having the CalGals over last night... we did a lot of talking and a few of the girls were very productive!  Merlie, who usually does close to nothing finished three cards last night!

I, on the other hand, after creating 3 cards during the day yesterday, had a tough time getting anything done.  I made one whopping card.  :-(

Oh well... the evening was enjoyable as always!

This is one of the cards I made during the day on Friday...
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White; Stampin' Up! Pear Pizazz, Basic Black
*Images: PTI Mega Mixed Messages
*Ink: VersaFine Onyx Black
*Tools: Big Shot, Spellbinders Nestabilities
*Embellishments: Doodlebug doublesided sticker; Glitter Ritz; Scor-Tape; dollar store rhinestones
*Challenges:  Mojo179

I really love the look of glitter... just hate the mess that it makes!  My Mom was a big fan of glitter and she had dozens of colours of Glitter Ritz which I was lucky enough to bring home after she passed.  I need to use it more often because it sure is beautiful!!

For this card, I used a double sided sticker by Doodlebug for the flower and created the black and blue stripes using three thin strips of Scor-Tape.  The key to using glitter, to make it truly glow, is to burnish the glitter to the sticky surface.  I used a piece of the backing to a sheet of double sided adhesive over top of the glittered part and then rubbing it with my bone folder several times.  It sort of flattens out the glitter so that all the shine shows.

I hope you're all enjoying your weekend!

*Yup, Two Posts Today*

This one is just a quickie as I'm trying to make a deadline at the Less is More challenge.

Sadly, I think I'm going to miss the deadline cuz my computer froze while I was editing the photo of the card I just created for the challenge...  and of course I had to reboot which seemed to take forever.

But I'll try anyway...

*No Winter Lasts Forever....*

Happy Friday, my friends!!!  I love how fast a short week flies by and brings Friday to us so quickly!

I'm very happy it's Friday because it means that the girls are coming over to play tonight.  I love it when the CalGals get together.  We don't always get a lot accomplished, but we talk and laugh and share and eat.  It's always a fun night!

I had a little time to play this morning and put together my card for this week's Clean and Simple challenge, using the colours from Stacey's Curtain Call Color Challenge.  Take a close look because that sentiment from Lizzie Anne is perfect for right now....  I have to believe that winter won't last forever (although honestly, I'm not so sure anymore!)
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White;  Stampin' Up! Tempting Turquoise, Tangerine Tango, Pear Pizazz
*Images: Lizzie Anne Say It In Script
*Ink: Stampin' Up! Pear Pizazz
*Tools: Big Shot; Spellbinders Nestabilities; Stampin' Up! border punch
*Embellishments: Stampin' Up! Tangerine Tango ribbon
*Challenges:  FTL 129; CurtainCall #70

Please send some mojo our way tonight...  hopefully *all* of the CalGals will be able to be creative tonight.  Merlie is famous for bringing half of her craft room and doing nothing for the evening LOL!

Please click the link to the right to see Natasha's sketch for this week for the Fall To Layout... and play along!  I promise, you'll love the clean and simple cards!

*Frack It's Cold!*

I've done very well in the last several weeks, and I have not talked about the weather on my blog... but I'm breaking that today to let you know that it is freakin' cold in Calgary right now!!!  The temperature is -24C (-11F) and with the windchill it's -37C (-35F).

There is no way to warm up after being out in temperatures like that!

I went to the gym this morning and was nice and warm while working out... was even warm for part of the drive home... but then the chill set in since I was in a not so warm car with wet hair and clothes!!

The main living portions of the house are nice and warm, but the basement, where I spend most of my day (it's where my creative space is, where I usually leave my laptop and where I watch the TV no one else in the house wants to watch) is COLD!!!

I think I will go to WalMart after bowling (it's in the same parking lot) and see if I can't find a space heater for down here...  It's hard to create with more than one sweater on LOL!

Anyway....

That's enough about the weather, at least for now LOL!

I created this card a few weeks ago, playing with an old MojoMonday Sketch.
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White; Stampin' Up! Peach Parfait, Riding Hood Red
*Pattern Paper: Imaginisce
*Images: Verve Floral Whimsy; PTI Mega Mixed Messages
*Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black; Copics
*Tools: Corner Chomper
*Embellishments: unknown grosgrain ribbon
*Challenges:  Mojo78

It's a little bright LOL!

Enjoy your day!

*Liebster Award*

I've been chosen by Amy at Amy's Stampery to receive the Liebster Award which is given to bring new blogs to light.  I'm not a new blogger by any  means, but I take it to mean that it will help get my blog out there for people who have never visited before.  I know I will be visiting the other two people that Amy nominated to see what they have to offer, and I've added Amy's blog to my Google Reader!

As a recipient, I must share the love and pay it forward by:
1.  Creating a post where you blog about the Liebster award and reveal your 3-5 blog picks
2.  Let them know you chose them
3.  Copy and paste the blog award on your blog
4.  Have faith that your followers will rally & show their crafty love back out to those your awarded
5.  Have fun!

I went through my starred items in Google Reader and found that I "favourite" items from the same people quite often.... so those are the people I've chosen to tag here...
1.  Susan at Simplicity by Lateblossom
2.  Chat at Me, My Stamps, and I
3.  Susan at Susan's Day Off Creations
4.  Joan at Paperlicious

And as always, I tag the five other CalGals... their links are on the sidebar to the right!!!

I hope you'll come back to visit me if this is your first time here... I love paper crafting and I love sharing what I create with others!

*I'm Sleepy*

Not only is the Tuesday after a long weekend difficult to deal with, I also had a bad sleep last night followed by not being able to really sleep between Bruce's 5:45am alarm and my 7am alarm.

Sleeping last night was funny...  I did some work later in the evening yesterday so I did a lot of dreaming about scrapbook kits and cutting diagrams.  I woke up after several of the dreams.

I don't think I was having nightmares about work... I'm pretty sure it was just because I worked later than I usually do, trying to get ahead of the game.

Add to the dreams and the lack of sleep a massage, and let me tell you, I am ready to crawl back in to bed (and it's 3:30 in the afternoon.

The massage was wonderful today... hit a few of the rough spots I have but was more relaxing than anything else.

But seriously, I could so use a nap!!

*No Pajama Day*

Hi All!

I had every intention of making today a pajama day... my first one ever (other than when I've been sick, but that doesn't count!)...  I slept in a little, got up and threw on some fleece pants and went down to bake some cookies for the family...  my plan was to bake cookies, craft a little, work a little...

But then some wrenches were thrown into my plans and I ended up having to put real clothes on to run a few errands and to pick up some stuff from the boss' house so I could continue my work.

I baked cookies and did a little work... but crafting never happened

I promise to try it again sometime....

I did manage to run my errands without bothering to style my hair or put on make up... I hope I didn't scare anyone LOL

I had a tough time with this colour combination.  I liked what I had seen done with it so I challenged myself to use it.  I don't hate this card, but I'm not in love with it either...

*Take Care My Friend*

I had a tough time with the colour challenge over at the ColorQ website this week... I kept looking at the colours and thought they were beautiful together, but I had no idea how to put them into a card ... especially since everything I do lately seems to lean towards the clean and simple look...

Honestly, I was at the point I was going to give up and not even play this week.

And then this idea came to me....
I created the card with the flowers and the layer and I didn't like it...  it was missing something....  so I took a chance on this sentiment and voila, I was in love with the card!
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White; Stampin' Up! Kraft
*Images: unknown (does anyone know what clear set this stamp is from???)
*Ink: Stampin' Up!  Baja Breeze, Cherry Cobbler, Not Quite Navy, Tangerine Tango
*Embellishments: Michael's Bridal flowers; Kaiser Pearls
*Challenges:  ColourQ72

This card just screams at me... I totally love it!

The deadline for this challenge is noon on Sunday so you still have some time to play... the link is over in the right sidebar!

*One Card, Two Challenges*

Happy Friday, everyone... the kids were off school yesterday and today for Teacher's Convention and Monday is a holiday (Heritage Day in Alberta).  Sadly I had the alarm set for both yesterday (I had a 9am doctor appointment) and today (the kids had dentist appointments at 10.  Thankfully, neither day was a 7am wake up call LOL!

For those who have been concerned about my headaches, I talked to the doctor about them yesterday.  She isn't concerned about them and I am pretty sure that they have all been weather related.  I know many people who have weather related headaches here in Calgary and with most of my headaches, at least one of my friends (if not several) had headaches on the same days as I did.

Sadly, there's nothing I can do to prevent weather related headaches.

I've had some fun playing in the last few days...  got myself caught up on some of my favourite challenges for this week.  Today I am sharing a card that uses the Mojo Monday 178 sketch and the Curtain Call Act 69 Color Challenge.
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White; Stampin' Up! Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler
*Images: Penny Black
*Ink: Stampin' Up! Real Red
*Tools: Big Shot; Spellbinders Nestabilities; Swiss Dots Cuttlebug embossing folder
*Embellishments: unknown bling; Michael's button; Stampin' Up! Real Red ribbon
*Challenges:  Mojo178; Curtain Call Act 69

I had a tough time with the colour challenge, and almost decided to not play at all.  First, I found it tough to do something with two shades of red, and then I found it very difficult to use both white and Very Vanilla on the same card (to me, it's either one or the other).  But I persevered and came up with something I am mostly pleased with.

I hope you find some time to craft this weekend... it's going to be another cold weekend in Calgary so I think that there might be some more creating in my future!

Now it's time to turn off the lights in the craft room and figure out what the heck I'm going to make for supper....  I hate that job LOL!

Enjoy your weekend!

*Congratulations -- A Blog Candy Winner!*

Thank you to everyone who left some love on my Eat Dessert First post...  I love getting comments on my blog....  the only problem with this one is that it left me craving so many different desserts!

I promised blog candy to one lucky person.... and being that my lucky number is 13, that's the number I chose.....  Congratulations to Samantha who said....

OpenID samantha said...

Your card is adorable, I love that sentiment. My family has a tradition that you get to eat birthday cake for breakfast the day after your birthday, well Feb 16th is my birthday, so on the 17the I will thoroughly enjoy my leftover cake for breakfast.

Samantha, first of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!  I too love having my leftover birthday cake for breakfast the next day.  My birthday is in July and as a kid, I was often home alone during the summer since both of my parents worked and my sisters were older than me by more than a couple of years....  so I would often have leftover birthday cake for both breakfast and lunch LOL!

Samantha, please email me with your address and I will get a package in to the mail for you this week!

Thanks again for all the comments!  I hope you'll all come back to visit!!

*I Used It!*

I found a new to me challenge site (and new to the world since they have only posted challenge #1 so far!) and I thought I would play along... the blog, Use It Tuesday, challenged players to use an image that they'd never used before.... and Lord knows I have a lot of images in sets that I've never used before.

So, I decided to reach for a set from The Angel Company that I had to have, but have only used one image a few times....
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White and Red; Stampin' Up! Basic Black
*Images: TAC Butterfly Swirls; PTI Mega Mixed Messages
*Ink: Brilliance Moonlight White; Versafine Onyx Black
*Tools:  Stampin' Up! Perfect Layers
*Embellishments: Michael's cheap buttons
*Challenges:  Use It Tuesday #1

You still have a few days to play in this challenge....

Bruce went off to his new job today...  he's looking forward to the challenge and to working with some former colleagues again... and word has it his former colleagues are excited to have him on their team!  It's so strange to have the house to myself this morning!  After getting everyone out the door I washed the bedding from both boyz beds, tidied the kitchen, and did two hours of work.... and now I'm posting on my blog (and about to choose a blog candy winner!) and then I think I will try to create for a while before I have to head off to do some more work.

Enjoy your Wednesday everyone!

*A Day Of Love*

Happy Valentine's Day everyone....  I don't totally buy in to the whole idea of today, but I do appreciate a little token to make the day...  a card picked for me with love goes a very long way with me.  I hate how roses and chocolates are so much more expensive today than they will be tomorrow.

I do think that Valentine's Day is a good reminder to keep the people you love in your heart and in your thoughts...  sometimes our lives are so busy we forget to tell those important people how much they mean to us... and February 14th is hard to miss, thus making us all think of those we love.

It doesn't have to be a spouse or a partner or anyone romantic.... it's a day, in my mind, to make sure that the important people in your life (your spouse, your kids, your parents, your siblings, your friends) know that they are always in your heart.

With all that said, I don't make Valentine's cards...  I don't often make a card for Bruce as they are never "just right"....  so he gets a Hallmark greeting today.

So, here is my non-Valentine Valentine's Day card LOL

*Angel Food Pie*

I had a few people ask for this recipe so I thought I would share....  when I was a kid, this was the only version of pie I would ever eat (I'd have mine (and I still do) with sprinkles instead of the toasted coconut though).  I made my first Angel Food Pie for dessert for an early Christmas celebration we did with Bruce's Mom and her husband and Bruce's siblings... I was nervous as it looks tough, but it was easy and OH so tasty!  I know my Mom would have been happy that I finally got around to trying the recipe....

Angel Food Pie

4 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
3/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups boiling water
3 egg whites
3/8 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 1/2 cups whipped cream

1. Mix cornstarch and sugar in a double boiler
2. Add boiling water, stirring constantly and cook until clear
3. Beat egg whites and salt until stiff
4. Add 3 tablespoons of sugar and vanilla and beat until shiny
5. Pour hot mixture slowly over beaten egg whites, beating continuously
6. Pour into a baked pie shell and cool (I use the recipe on the Crisco box)
7. Serve with Whipped Cream and Toasted Coconut

*Eat Dessert First -- There's Blog Candy Involved!*

My Dad had a cousin who would come to visit when Dad was growing up... and of course, he'd be there for dinner.  Before the food was passed around, this cousin would ask "what's for dessert?"  He would then decide how much dinner he would eat based on how much he liked the dessert being served.

What a smart man!

And I think that's what I like most about this stamp.... it says "Life is uncertain.... eat dessert first!".

One day, I think we're going to do that... start with dessert.... or hell, just have dessert for dinner and be done with it!

I have some blog candy to give away to one lucky winner who comments on this post... just tell me what your favourite dessert is!!  I will choose a winner on February 16th.

I have lots of favourite desserts and I honestly don't know if I could narrow it down to just one....
*chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream
*warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream (preferably home made pie as the pastry is flakier)
*warm apple crisp with vanilla ice cream

*Looked Better In My Head*

Happy Friday my friends.... I can't believe how fast this week flew by.... it's not that I was all that busy, but the week feels like it just started!  Sure, on Monday I was feeling like it was Wednesday, but the rest of the week just went by so fast!

Absolutely crazy!

Big news in our house this week... Bruce was offered a job at a downtown oil and gas company and he handed in the signed offer this morning.  He will be starting work either late next week or early the week after that.  He's excited to be working with a couple of former colleagues again.  While I sometimes miss having the house to myself since he's been home for a while now, I know it will take a little time for me to get used to not having him around all the time!  It will take a little bit of an adjustment!

I am still surprised that I've been playing with challenges while they're still current for the last couple of weeks... I had gotten used to playing catch up over the last year or so!
Items Used:
*Cardstock: Stampin' Up! Crumb Cake, Basic Black, Marina Mist, So Saffron

*Images: Whippersnapper
*Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black; coloured pencils
*Tools: Big Shot; Sizzix Daisies #2 die
*Embellishments: Pebble's Candy Dots; Stampin' Up! grosgrain ribbon
*Challenges:  Mojo177; Curtain Call Color Challenge #51

The samples I saw of this colour combination looked so much better than what this turned out to be....  it's not great, but it's not bad....maybe just too dull or something???  Maybe I should have switched the use of the blue and the black cardstocks.....

*Playing In Paradise!*

I am so excited to share with you all that I was chosen as the Paradise Player for the January Challenge over on the Scrapbookers Paradise Blog.  I submitted this card for the layout challenge.

As the Paradise Player, I was invited to play in this weeks challenge, which was to create a card or scrapbook page inspired by Ally Cope's owl photo...
Now, those who know me, know I am not a fan of birds of any shape or size or form....  and honestly, I've never attempted to be inspired by a photo of something before.

When I looked at the photo, I saw brown with green circles.... so that is what I went with....

*Pretty In Pink*

Happy Tuesday everyone....  it's no Friday, but at least it's not Monday.

I spent quite a while at my creative desk yesterday and managed to create a few cards.  Nothing overly stunning, but at least I got some stuff done!  I am hoping to spend a little time doing some more creating this afternoon....

I love the idea behind colour challenges, but sometimes those colour challenges are real challenges!  Sometimes I just don't know what to do with the colours, no matter how much I like how the samples looked.

This card mixes an old Mojo sketch and a new Curtain Call Colour Challenge...

*Just Sitting Here*

Why is it that I *want* to create, but I come down to my craft cave and I sit here doing nothing?  This is like day #3 of doing nothing creative despite wanting to.

I am so easily distracted by my computer or the tv or anything else that might come up.

Heck, even the scraps on the carpet below my table were distracting me so I finally got out the vacuum and took care of that just a few minutes ago.

Maybe after I do this blog post I'll turn off the TV and try harder....  cuz after this card, this is nothing in my stash to share with you!

Talk about pressure LOL

I created this card for the birthday party my son went to yesterday for his good friend.  This is the girl who's birthday invitations I made a few weeks ago... they had a great time rollerskating/rollerblading and pigging out.  There were 6 girls and 5 boys at the party... their first real boy/girl party!

*No Mojo*

Good morning everyone....  I have been trying for two days now to spend some time creating and honestly, I sit here with no inspiration.  I pulled some cardstock on Thursday night inspired by a colour challenge I saw but I have no idea what I want to do with it.

Gah!!

After this there is only one card in my stash to share.

I won't be creating today as I'm about to run out to do a few errands and then I'm hanging out at the roller rink with my friend and ten 13 and 14 year old kids for a birthday party...  I'm even staying for hot dogs and cake apparently LOL.  Bruce has invited the friends over to watch the UFC fight tonight so that means once I get home there won't be any creating either.

Maybe tomorrow.

Anyway....  enough of my bitching and moaning about my lack of Mojo....

*I Love Buttons*

I never thought I'd say that I love buttons.  For the longest time, I just couldn't see the point or something.  I don't know what it was honestly, but I just didn't think to use buttons on my cards.

And now I'm looking for more buttons to buy cuz I just love em!

I can't believe I used so many on ONE card!!!!
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White
*Images: Boxer Remembrances
*Ink: Stampin' Up! Chocolate Chip
*Tools: Big Shot; Swiss Dots Cuttlebug embossing folder
*Embellishments: Basic Grey buttons

I love this card...  love how simple and clean it is....  love all those beautiful buttons... but I hate that it is a sympathy card for a Cuttlebugging friend who lost her husband suddenly this past week.

Thanks for coming by to visit!

*I Did It Again!*

Yes, I went to the gym again this morning!  I did the same workout as on Tuesday.  And then this afternoon I went bowling.  I seriously think I've burned more calories that I've consumed today!

The gym is definitely not a habit yet, but I am working to make it one!

Last weekend our almost 16 year old son competed in a local Tae-Kwon Do tournament here in the city.  Our instructors asked if I would make a card for the participants from our school who participated in the tournament to sign to send to the school the hosted the tournament.  I knew I would need a card a little bigger than a standard quarter sheet of cardstock so I took inspiration from my friend Christy and created a 5"X7" card.

And I like it!
Items Used:
*Cardstock: PTI White; Stampin' Up! Cajun Craze, Chocolate Chip
*Images: CTMH From Me To you; Stampin' Up! All Year Cheer I
*Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black; Stampin' Up! Chocolate Chip; Copics
*Challenges:  Curtain Call Act 67

Such a simple card... perfect for this big image.... I really love how it turned out.  And I never ever would hae put Almost Amethyst (as close as I could get in Copics) with Cajun Craze and Chocolate Chip... who knew it would look good??!!
