*More Challenges!*

Thanks to Tracy, I got busy last night and made three cards... and then made another this afternoon after having a lovely chat and tea with Shannon and Hailey.

See, Tracy posted about a challenge blog she found and I figured that since I was only four weeks behind, I could catch up and play!

And I did!

Go me!

The new challenge won't be posted until Saturday so I'm even ahead of the game now!

I started with the first challenge and made my way through four different sketches posted by Cindy Haffner. For the month of October, Vicki Garrett will be posting the challenges. They don't have to do sketches so I am curious to see what Vicki makes us do!

The blog is called Crazy 4 Challenges... they will post new challenges each Saturday, and each month a different person will host the challenges. Sounds intriguing!

So, I give to you... my take on C4C1!

I told you I wanted to use this colour combo again... I just love it! I also like how any colour combination can be changed up to create such a different result. This card looks so different from the card I posted yesterday.

The challenge was a tent card, and I decided to make mine 5.5" square... the card itself is a stand size with the flower on top creating the extra height.

I used all Stampin' Up! cardstock on this... Whisper White, Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive and Taken with Teal. I added a sentiment from the Best Yet set in Onyx Black VersaFine ink. I used the Blossom Nestabilities and ran the Razzleberry layer through the Big Shot with the Swiss Dots Cuttlebug Folder. The white layer was run through with the D'vine Swirl folder.

I am quite pleased with how this card turned out.

Tune in tomorrow to see the next card in the challenge!

See ya!!

*Cool Colour Combo*

Hi everyone! I had a wonderful time in my craft space last night while Bruce and the boyz were at TaeKwon Do. I created a card for MojoMonday while catching up on Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters.

I discovered a new to me blog yesterday and found a wonderful colour combination. I wrote the colours down and decided to use those colours in my Mojo106 creation. I love the card that Ann created with these colours. I changed the colours up for my card...

Items Used:
*Cardstock: Stampin' Up! Old Olive, Taken With Teal, Rich Razzleberry, Basic Black; Staples white
*Images: Stampin' Up! Best Yet
*Ink: VersaFine Onyx Black; Copic Markers
*Tools: Big Shot; Swiss Dots and D'vine Swirl Cuttlebug Embossing folders; Stampin' Up! Word Windo Punch
*Embellishments: black grosgrain ribbon; Kaiser Pearls; Michael's Bridal flowers

I am really pleased with how this card turned out... and I would definitely use this colour combination again. Next time I think I will try it using the "formula" that Ann used where the colours are accents instead of the white being the accent.

Enjoy your day!

*Windy!*

It's a windy and cool Monday here in Calgary... you can definitely feel that fall is in the air. Such a change from last week and our hot hot temperatures. I understand that there is a chance of snow later this week. Brr!

But I am still here in my capris (wore flip flops when I went out earlier) with my slippers and a fleece sweater on.

I went back to the gym today for the first time since my knee gave out a few weeks ago when I was trying the Couch to 5K Learn to Run program. Instead of walking/running I did the recumbent bike for 30 minutes. I then went and did a few squats, my usual arm and back and chest weights, and then a few leg extensions with a light weight. Sure, my knee was tired and a little stiff afterwards, but I thought all was OK... so I took myself to the mall thinking I would look for a pair of shoes to wear when the snow flies later this week... I looked and looked for shoes and all I came home with was three new tins of tea from Teaopia and a very sore knee!

I have no idea what I will wear for shoes later this week... perhaps my runners? Won't that by stylish??!! LOL!

I know what I would like in a pair of shoes, but can't find it... I'd like a little heel maybe, but it has to be a wide heel.... black shoes.... comfortable but still a little stylish... slipons... sigh

Anyway... I am home now with Ibuprofen in my system, a cup of tea and an ice pack on my knee (I might need another sweater LOL!). And since I can't do much else right now, I think I will try to create today!

I have a monochromatic card for you today... I was inspired by a card I saw on Susan's blog... if you haven't been there to see her simple and clean creations, take a minute or two to visit. I love what she can do!!

I don't like my card as much as I liked hers, but that's OK....

Items Used:
*Cardstock: Stampin' Up! Whisper White, Ballet Blue, Basic Black, Bashful Blue
*Images: The Angel Company Petal Pack; Inkadinkadoo
*Ink: Stampin' Up! Bashful Blue, Ballet Blue; Versafine Onyx Blac
*Embellishments: bling!

*Quiet Weekend*

WOW, what a quiet weekend around here. I didn't do a darn thing that was productive yesterday other than make peanut butter cookies with Matthew after dinner. I didn't craft, I didn't read, I didn't start the laundry... I didn't even leave the house. Why on earth did I bother to get dressed?? LOL!

Again, I felt like crafting... but I sat down at my craft table and did nothing. I just couldn't get in the right mood to put ink to paper. Sad, eh?

I don't know what all today holds, but I do know I will be leaving the house to go to bowling tonight. I'm having a lot of fun being back in a league (it's been 20 years!). I am doing better each week, but of course am no where near where I was 20 years ago. Thanks to all of us improving with each game and our "ringer" Trevor (who consistently bowls 200 or more -- this is 5-pin FYI), our team was in second place after week 2! Woot woot!

I've also been craving apple pie so I might do that today too. And I have the laundry started.

See... I've already accomplished more today than I did yesterday LOL!

On another note... today is Miikka's anniversary! We brought her home a year ago today. She didn't turn into the cuddly cat we had hoped for.... instead she is mischievious and aloof... a true cat. But we still love her...

I finally remembered about the High Hopes stamps I had ordered with the CalGals ... out of sight out of mind in my world. I might have to go back and order some more soon as back in the spring I refused to buy winter stamps! And there were several that I thought were adorable.

Items Used:
*Cardstock: Stampin' Up! Whisper White, Basic Black
*Patterned Paper: Upsy Daisy
*Images: High Hopes
*Ink: Memento Black; Copic Spica
*Tools: Big Shot; Nestabilities

I created this card following a SplitcoastStampers Sketch -- SC240

The weather is a lot cooler here in Calgary than it was a week ago... but I refuse to bring out long pants and shoes.... you'll find me in capris, flip flops and a sweater LOL!

I really have to go shopping for some shoes or I'll end up going shopping in the snow with my flip flops on!

*Found A Little Mojo*

Happy Friday everyone!! I'm looking forward to no alarm clock in the morning! It's not that I want to sleep really late, it's just that I want to get up when I want to get up. I have a hate relationship with my alarm clock. I look forward to the time in my life when the alarm clock goes off only once in a while.

The only time I don't hate my alarm clock is when it wakes me up for an early flight to go on vacation!

And even then, I still don't like it!

I finally got around to playing a little yesterday...

I'm sure I'm not alone... I come down to my craft space and get sidetracked by TV and computer. And when I finally around to wanting to craft, I simply sit here thinking about it and I do nothing.

I have the supplies... it's not like I don't have stuff to play with. I have some ideas I want to play with. I want to craft.

But I sit here and do nothing.

And then I turn the TV back on and go back to blog surfing or Facebook or playing games on Pogo.

It's like I'm putting it off and I don't know why!

So I was thrilled (thrilled) to create two cards yesterday! One will be added to the regular rotation, and from the title of the post I'm sure you know that the one I am posting today is this weeks MojoMonday Sketch (mojo105)

Items Used:
*Cardstock: Stampin' Up! Chocolate Chip, Soft Sky
*Images: Lizzie Anne Say It In Script
*Ink: Stampin' Up! Chocolate Chip
*Tools: Big Shot; Swiss Dots Cuttlebug Embossing Folder; Stampin' Up! circle punches
*Embellishments: Robins Nest Dew Drops; brown satin ribbon

It's hard to tell in the photo but the colour combination isn't white and brown. I guess it was a bit too sunny in my corner of the world for good photos.

It took a lot of staring at the sketch to decide what I wanted to do, but I am pleased with the results (after I ripped it all apart and added a soft sky piece that had been sent through the Big Shot with the Swiss Dots folder -- without the dots, it was totally blah. I am amazed at what those little dots did for the card)

Thanks again for stopping by..... enjoy your Friday!

*It's Quiet*

For the first time in 10 days, I am alone in the house. It seems so quiet.

Heather left yesterday afternoon. I was a good girl. While my voice broke a bit, I didn't cry at the airport.

I was a little more choked up as I left the airport, but still I did not cry.

About an hour after I dropped her off at the airport, I decided to call her house and leave her a message... and then I cried.

And as I typed that... I had tears in my eyes.

I love my family... and I hate that I don't get to see them more often.

I am hopeful that they will all arrive at my doorstep to celebrate Christmas with us this year.

So, I am spending a quiet day at home... the house is clean, the sun is shining... Life will pick up once Matthew is home from school as he has drums at 3:30... and I'll run to the grocery store while he is there. And tonight Alex has Drivers Ed lesson 4 of 6... that class ends next Thursday night.

But for now, I will enjoy the quiet... even though I'm missing Heather!

The card I am sharing today follows the layout for the Splitcoast Stampers Sketch Challenge #239 (SC239).

Items Used:
*Cardstock: Core'dination; Stampin' Up! Basic Black and Whisper White
*Patterned Paper: BoBunny
*Image: Unity
*Ink: VersaMagic Tea Leaves
*Embellishments: Pebbles Candy Dots

*It's Fall... and I have a Christmas card!*

Happy Fall Y'all.... it officially arrived at 3:18pm local time. And it's a hot a sunny day in Calgary... 29*C (which is 84*F). Definitely not "normal" weather for this time of year. They are forecasting even hotter for tomorrow!!! I do not mind at all!

I was crafting with Heather yesterday, trying to figure out what to do with the MojoMonday sketch, when I had a brainstorm for a simple and elegant Christmas card for Tracy's challenge. This month she gave us a list of techniques we could use on our card... and I chose Spirelli. I love the look of the wrapped thread around scalloped shapes. Such a beautiful effect and so easy to do!!

My cards use silver and blue metallic Anchor embroidery floss that I found at Michaels. I also used a Brilliance ink pad and a stamp from Impression Obsession. I created the shapes using my Nestabilities and added some bling to the centres of the spirelli squares.

What you can't really see in the photo is that I did paper piercing in the two right corners of the card to add just a little something.

My sister leaves late tomorrow afternoon... I sure wish we could convince her to move here.... I can promise there will be tears!

*Excellent Find*

I saw a post on Facebook the other day.... someone had found a rechargeable Ott Light at Costco!! I didn't think too much about it until I registered for the Jingle Bell Crop this morning... with a full charge, the lamp will work for 3 hours on battery power. Not a full crop, but better than no lamp at all!

And the best part???

Only $25!!

Here's a photo I found online (not at Costco.ca).... only difference is mine is black.

It's charging now.... will let you know what I think of it after it's charged.

I already use an Ott Light just like this only plugged into the wall all the time.... can't recommend the Ott Lights enough!

*Been Busy Crafting!*

So far, I've made 6 cards this weekend. I should be making another now, but am having trouble with the Mojo. Heather (that's my sister, btw) gave me about 10 cards that she wanted to see what I could do with the idea. Some we like mine better, some we like the original better. I'll be sharing these cards later on... they'll go into the regular rotation of cards I've created. Not like the sketch challenges on the MojoMonday blog as I like to try to be current with those.

Today is the perfect crafting day as it's chilly and rainy. Got the laundry going and the TV was on for a while.... should maybe turn on some tunes instead as they will distract me less LOL

I created this card at the beginning of August to send to my friend Laurie for her birthday. I've known Laurie for many years thanks to the online stamping group I moderate. She doesn't stamp or make cards much anymore (if at all) but we still keep track of each other.

Items Used:
*Cardstock: Stampin' Up! Whisper White, Basic Black, Rich Razzleberry
*Images: Stampin' Up! Warmest Regards
*Ink: VersaFine Onyx Black; Copic markers (to colour the flowers)
*Embellishments: Michael's Bridal flowers; ribbon from stash; Kaiser Pearls

*Allison's Challenge*

Happy weekend, everyone! Still loving that my sister is here! We spent yesterday at the new mall (Cross Iron Mills)... had a great time until I managed to leave one of my shopping bags somewhere. I will call the Mall Security office again tomorrow morning to see if anyone has turned it in.

I'm so glad my sister decided to extend her stay. She was originally supposed to be heading home late this afternoon, but now I have her until Wednesday instead! I sure wish she would just hurry up and move back west... being 4 hours away by plane is just too far!

We are spending today crafting.... she's found some cards she wants me to CASE... I've done two today plus the first one she challenged me with last night. Most I've crafted in a long time!

Last weekend the CalGals met at my house for our monthly night of stamping and chatting and eating. It was Allison's turn to bring the challenge, and this was our first month without a sketch challenge! Instead, she really challenged us by bringing a stamp that she loves but is always stumped to use.

I gave her a hard time, but it really wasn't that bad.

Not a huge fan of the image, but I think I pulled off something different than the other ladies.

I created the background for the image using some Brilliance inks on white cardstock using the direct to paper technique of smooshing and swiping ink on the cardstock. I then stamped the image on top with a darker shade of blue ink.

Not a great card, not really my style... but not bad for a challenge that was really a challenge!

So far, Merlie, Allison and Tracy have posted the cards that they created with this image... please click on the links on the right to go visit their blogs and see what they came up with. I'm sure Dianne will post hers soon... and Shannon was freshly home from visiting her Mom in Saskatchewan so she wasn't able to join us last week.

Thanks for coming to visit!

*Miikka's Great Adventure*

Well, the truth is, I have no idea what Mikkaa's (our cat) adventure entailed, but I know it lasted about 12 hours. She managed to escape from our yard last night and at 10pm Bruce was wandering the neighbourhood with her harness (when she hears the bell on it she bolts cuz she *hates* her harness) and a flashlight. We went to bed around 11:30 without finding her. I will admit to being worried about her.

I had hoped that she was at the back door meowing for food this morning... but she wasn't. Bruce got dressed and went out looking for her again. I was wondering if we'd ever see her again.

And then, out of nowhere. I was sitting in the basement and out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of a slow moving cat walking past the basement window towards the back yard. I opened the back door and there was my girl, running to her food and water dishes. She ate, drank and is now asleep in her little bed.

I'd love to know what her story from last night is...

I created this card earlier this week for Mojo104. I had seen a picture in my recent flips through magazines and thought that the colours looked good together, so I decided to try them on my card.

Items Used:
*Cardstock: Stampin' Up! So Saffron, Going Grey, Basic Black; Classic Crest white
*Images: Lizzie Anne Say It In Script
*Ink: VersaFine Onyx Black
*Tools: Big Shot; Blossom and Circle Nestabilities; Swiss Dots Cuttlebug Embossing Folder

*Lookit.... How Pretty*

I was spoiled on Tuesday... totally spoiled. Bruce is off work this week and was home when my sister and I got home from doing some running around.... and he pulled out these beautiful roses!!

Now, unfortunately for him, he got the date wrong, but the sentiment was there and so appreciated... he was sure that we met on September 15th and went on our first day on Friday, October 13th.... all 20 years ago. We actually met on the October date (yes, a Friday) and our first date was about a week later.

But the important thing is that he bought me 20 beautiful roses to mark 20 years of being a couple.

I am so lucky to have such a kind, caring and considerate husband.

I love you, Bruce!

*Thank You Judy P*

Just a quickie again as my sister and I are heading off to shop today... I wanted to pose a photo of the pocket card I received in the mail yesterday from Judy, one one my Canadian Card Exchange cards for the month of September.

Thanks so much Judy!!! What a neat card with the two pockets and two pull-outs!

*A Card For Hailey*

Just a quickie from me this morning as Bruce is dropping off his car to get detailed and I need to pick him up.

I made this card to give to Shannon and Hailey for the little baby shower that the CalGals had for them in August. I used Scalloped and Inverted Scallop and Blossom Nestabilities with Bazzill Bling cardstock and a large green glitter brad by Doodlebug... and a little pink ribbon to finish it all off. I also added some white dots around the edges of the flower.

I did a little crafting with my sister yesterday... she is here visiting from Ontario until the 23rd. I love having her here.... wish we could get her to move!

Enjoy your day!

*I Hate Getting Older*

I've decided that it sucks to be pushing 40. In my mind, I don't feel 39... and I don't act like I'm 39. But my body? sigh....

I woke up this morning and the knot by my shoulder blade is not nearly as bad (I can take a deep breath and can move my arm without pain!). My knee is stiff but not sore. And then, suddenly, there's a twinge in my back... Hard to walk properly. Hard to get in and out of the car. But I know I have to do things are normally as possible otherwise something else will hurt tomorrow.

Some days I don't feel 39 at all... more like 89!

LOL

Pushing 40 sucks... LOL!

Back in July there was a request for cards on a Cuttlebug Yahoo Group I am on... cards for a member who had just had a baby boy. I had spent part of an afternoon colouring these elephant images with my Copics and decided to use one of them on a baby card.

The neat thing I did with the Cuttlebug folder was that I embossed a portion of the card, left a space and then embossed the other part of the card leaving a strip of smooth cardstock. I love the look!

Items Used:
*Cardstock: Bazzill Bling
*Images: High Hopes; Stampin' Up! Warmest Regards
*Ink: VersaFine Onyx Black; Memento Black; Copic Markers
*Tools: Big Shot; Swiss Dots Cuttlebug Folder

*I CASEd Myself, CASEing Susan*

Well, my running career may be put on hold.... yesterday on the treadmill I started to feel some pain in my right knee. I was walking down some stairs last night and suddenly there was a sharp shooting pain through my knee. This morning it's still stiff and a little sore. From what I have read and what I've been told, I think I need to spend some time strenghtening my knees. So I guess there will be some on the bike and doing some light leg weights in my future. We'll see how it goes.

I'm truly disappointed about the glitch in my plan. I don't want to injure myself for the sake of running. I know what chronic pain is like and it sucks. I plan on getting back to the running, but it might be a few weeks.

I also did weights yesterday and I woke up this morning with a tight spot right behind my left shoulder blade. Talk about uncomfortable. I am doing my best to stretch it as often as I can... wish my massage was today instead of two days ago!

Apparently this getting in shape thing sucks LOL! This is the most I've hurt since I started back to the gym 10 days ago.

On to the card....

I created this card by CASEing THIS card, which was a CASE of THIS card I saw on Susan's blog. I wanted some that was simple yet stunning to send to Julie for her birthday... she and I share a birthday in July.

I just love this design... Susan rocks the simple cards!! Be sure to take some time to check out her creations!

Items Used:
*Cardstock: Stampin' Up! Whisper White
*Images: Stampin' Up! Doodle This; Inkadinkadoo
*Ink: Rocket Red Brilliance (embossed with Clear Embossing Powder); Versafine Onyx Black; black fine tip pen
*Embellishments: Kaiser Pearls; Kaiser Rhinestones

I cheat a little to create the square on my card.... instead of using my ruler and hoping I line things up, I cut a piece of cardstock to the size I wanted and traced around it after all my stamping was done (and dry... very important stamp when you use the Versafine ink on SU Whisper White cardstock).

*Don't Fall Over*

I know, it's shocking.... I created a MojoMonday card on a Monday! I know,eh? I'm surprised too!!!

I've wanted to craft for days... but it's been the same old story for days and days... I come down to craft and don't bother even trying. I watch TV, surf the net, play games online... and then feel guilty for wasting my time... and at that point, there's no hope in crafting.

I started doing the same thing today, but then decided enough was enough. I chose a patterned paper and started working on Mojo103

Items Used:
*Cardstock: Coredinations green; Stampin' Up! Ballet Blue; unknown white
*Patterned Paper: Best Creation
*Images: Verve Floral Whimsy
*Ink: Stampin' Up! Ballet Blue
*Embellishments: Stampin' Up! Bluebird grosgrain ribbon

For those of you who are keeping track, yes, I did go to the gym today and I didn't die when I attempted Week2Day1 of Couch to 5K. It was hard, but I managed to get through it. I will walk or do WiiFit tomorrow and will be back at the gym on Wednesday. I think this was the first ever holiday Monday I've ever gone to the gym... I usually look at holiday Mondays as a holiday from exercise.

*Finally*

I finally managed to play a little on Friday... of course, it was in the evening instead of during the day while the groomer was here. I had such big plans to spend the majority of my day creating, but before I knew it kids and husband were coming home from school and work... The kids overtook the family room last night so Bruce and I retreated to the basement and my craft space where he fiddled around on his laptop and I created a card while we watched some TV.

And then??? this morning??? I created another card!

I know!!??!!

LOL

I needed to get busy so that I wasn't too late to submit my card with Mr. Linky for Mojo102.

When I saw the sketch I knew I wanted to use my Sizzix die again. I just love it! I had no idea what to do with the one rectangle shape as I thought there were already enough flowers on the card, so I did the flourish instead.

Items Used:
*Cardstock: Stampin' Up! Whisper White, Basic Black, Melon Mambo
*Images: A*muse; Inkadinkadoo Dot flourishes
*Ink: Versafine Onyx Black
*Tools: Big Shot; Daisies #2 Sizzix Die by Stampin' Up; Floral Fantasy Cuttlebug Embossing Folder
*Embellishments: Michael's ribbon; unknown polka dot brad; Kaiser Pearls

*Ahhhh, Long Weekend*

I'm looking forward to a quiet long weekend... nothing better than mornings without an alarm clock!! I don't mind getting up early, I just hate having the alarm clock wake me.

Thankfully I have not heard the newspaper delivery person the last two mornings. I am hoping to hear nothing from him (or her) tomorrow either. I was pretty grumpy about getting disturbed from my sleep at 5am! I didn't think I was a light sleeper but since Bruce didn't hear it, I must be at least a little bit of a light sleeper. Either that or my body is tuned to wake up to a beeping sound (although I use the radio as my alarm).

I created this card to send to Anita for her birthday in July. I was inspired by I card I saw at CupcakeMartini. I knew I wanted something fresh and clean and I thought Krystie captured that with her card.

Items Used:
*Cardstock: Stampin' Up! Whisper White
*Patterned Paper: Deja Views
*Images: Inkadinkadoo
*Ink: Versafine Onyx Black; fine tip black pen
*Tools: Stampin' Up! scallop border punch
*Embellishments: Pebbles Candy Dots

*I Hate Thinking Of Blog Post Titles!*

Some days the titles are obvious. Some days the titles come to you. Some days there is just nothing that would make any sense. Guess what today is??

LOL

I am in complete disbelief that I have done NO paper crafting this week with the kids in school! I have run errands, tidied the house, gone to the gym, taken the dog for walks, gone to the chiropractor, read, sat outside, watered the lawn, picked weeds, played on the computer, surfed my blogs, chatted on msn, watched TV, crocheted... and nothing with my stamps and papers! How sad is that?

The groomer is coming tomorrow morning after my gym trip (isn't it awesome that she comes to us??!!) so perhaps I will ban the computer and play. I can't be anywhere that Milo can hear me as he whines and tries to get away to be with me. It's better that I'm in the basement away from it all.

I think I am done with the cards that I made at the Summer Scraptacular. I am looking forward to the next crop organized by MondayNightClass.ca as I believe my stamping friends (the CalGals) will be joining me... crops are always more fun with a group!

Items Used:
*Cardstock: Stampin' Up! Whisper White, Melon Mambo
*Images: A*Muse; Stampabilities
*Ink: Memento Black; Copic Markers
*Embellishments: Pebbles Candy Dots; Sakura Stardust Gel Pen

Wish me luck with the crafting for tomorrow!!! I want to be creative but then just sit here and stare and don't know where to start!!

I'd give up french fries for some original ideas LOL!

*The House To Myself*

I enjoy having the house to myself for a portion of the day (and once in a while, I love having it to myself for several days at a time!). It's just quiet. And relaxing. I feel like there is room to breathe.

I love my family, enjoy their company... but it's nice to have some space to myself in my house. After a weekend alone, I crave their company... but these days to myself while the rest of my family is off at work or school are golden. Today I walked the dog before it got too hot, had breakfast, tidied a few rooms, ran a few errands, had lunch, did some computer stuff, updated my blog.... and Matthew should be home from school any minute.

Seems like forever since I made this card... and I suppose it is... I created it at the Summer Scraptacular back in June! I've crafted since then and have had items that were "time sensitive" to get on to my blog so the other cards have been pushed back.

Items Used:
*Cardstock: Stampin' Up! Basic Black and Melon Mambo
*Tools: Big Shot; Nestabilities; Spots & Dots Cuttlebug Embossing Folder
*Embellishments: sheer ribbon

The word "friend" was hand printed....
